Hello!

Hello and welcome to my election blog! I'm Fee Wood and I'm standing for election to become your WMANUS Area Convenor for 2009-2010. I'll keep this blog updated with all the latest campaign info, information about me and why i'm standing, what I want to achieve for you... and how you can get involved!

FE, Not F*** All!

One of the things that I as a West Midlands officer am most proud of, is the way we unite to support one another. Within the Midlands, there are little over 100,000 HE students to one NUS Regional Organiser, and yet over 1.1 million FE students to one NUS development worker. I stand for an empowering approach to engaging our FE members that evens the balance,
and ensure we have a fit and fighting, campaigning organisation for FE.

 Fairer funding for FE students – from EMA and ALG, to level 3
course funding running out at 25. Course funding is a major issue for
students in FE, and I will make it my priority FE campaign to lobby institutions for
fairer bursaries and grants for those adult learners that wish to return to study,
and for more financial support for our 16-19 members.

 The west midlands, is by its nature as a rural area, extremely expensive to travel around. The EMA grant of a maximum of £30 a week, is simply not enough to cover the hidden course costs such as £15-20 per week travel cards, books and materials. I will lobby travel companies for reduced travel for students, and continue to fight for better financial support for FE students.
